I have physically seen stone statues sold by ShalinCraft. These are made in a very unique kind of stone found in the state of Orissa in eastern India. These stones are harder than soap-stones, on which most carvings are made, but softer than granite stone. Orissa along with Khajuraho is known for temple sculptures that were created in 10th and 11th centuries. Stone statues sold by ShalinCraft seem to be inspired by those temple sculptures. Rajendra Misra, a young sculptor living in the town of Puri in Orissa, has created most of ShalinCraft statues. This sculptor was also awarded Medal by the President of India for his outstanding creations of sculptures.
